Two new studies from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium found that six of ten Virginia school districts surveyed had no policies explicitly referencing AI and the four that did had only partial coverage. Researchers found staff use and teacher training were the areas with almost no policy coverage at all, with one researcher describing the current state as “a patchwork” where AI governance simply hasn’t caught up to how fast the tools have arrived in classrooms.
