North Carolina’s House Bill 301, which would require DPI to develop a model AI policy for local school districts to adopt and establish a mandatory AI tool evaluation framework, passed its second and third readings unanimously in the state Senate. Like Virginia’s SB 394, the bill mandates local policy adoption without dedicated state funding to implement it — a senator’s amendment to add $5 million for districts was set aside rather than passed.
